First definite butterfly sighting 2017

This peacock butterfly - my first butterfly sighting this year - was enjoying the sun and the nectar in our garden today. I submitted a recording along with photo evidence to Butterfly Conservation through the iRecord app on my phone. Its a great tool to assist butterfly identification and the data submitted is useful for butterfly research and as an assay for studying environmental change. I was not the first to submit a sighting of a peacock butterfly in 2017. That claim goes to someone who saw one on the 1st January in the Somerset and Wiltshire region!
