One fresh beech log, harvested, scrubbed clean, drilled, and plugged with spore-treated dowel and planted in the shade under the acer in Milngavie's naturally moist soil. Fry up scheduled for October 2017. Well it could be 2018. Pencil it in. This log should provide pearl oyster, Pleurotus Ostreatus mushrooms for at least a couple of years over the autumn, winter and spring, and maybe for as long as 5 years . The mushroom log growing kit from The Rustic Mushroom Company contained 30 dowel plugs which is enough for an 80cm length log 10cm in diameter, and was a very thoughtful present from David and Margaret Stevenson.
