Time to put up your nest boxes.
Bluetits have started to scope out various nesting options so if you havn't done so already now is the time to put up your new nest boxes. See our products page if you need to buy a nest box, and/or contact us if you need help putting one up. The RSPB website has good information on siting nestboxes, but essentially tit boxes need to be 2 to 4 m off the ground on a wall or tree, out of reach of predators, and ideally not in full sun or driving wind. The one shown below is about about 2.5m off the ground on some play equipment, facing north and partially shaded by the supporting post so meets these criteria. It is perhaps too exposed so some honeysuckle growing up the post would be ideal.
